PANDEMIC IN CHRISTMAS
How can one celebrate Christmas this year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic?
This is most certainly one of the few instances in contemporary history when we are encouraged to celebrate Christmas in its purest, most simple form.
Due of the spotlight on the Covid virus, we are obsessed with regulations on how to spend Christmas this year– with only members of the family who live in the same household, to continue wearing masks, to follow social isolation, or to wash hands regularly. We are not allowed to see each other for our mutual protection and safety. We won't be able to enjoy the usual Christmas joy and mirth that we have come to expect this year.
Covid, on the other hand, should not be allowed to detract from our Christmas festivities! Let us share even more hope, peace, joy, and love this season! And it is here that I am reminded of the birth of our Savior. The Christmas narrative is plain. When our Lord and Savior was born in a manger, only his mother and father were present. Among his visits were a shepherd, a few animals, and the three magi. It's a touching reminder of the season's deeper meaning. This year has been difficult for all of us, but we remain optimistic. Despite the turmoil and fear that the epidemic has brought, God is with us, has always been with us, and will always be with us. Jesus is the light of the world!
May we continue to make space in our hearts for the child Jesus, so that our lives reflect Christ's presence and our homes radiate God's peace. If we have a lot of faith, hope, and love, we will all be able to get through this crisis together.
Yes, I agree that we should spread love, joy and hope to everyone through being joyful and merry this Christmas. Because of Christmas and the people celebrating it, we feel hopeful and reminded that God is always with us and there is always hope!
